Newsletter 2.12.2013

Christmas is truly in the air as we introduced our Winter Christmas  theme with the children on Monday. They were very happy to see our role play area that turned into a Winter Christmas scene and also snowflakes all over the classroom even up the ceiling! Another exciting activity for the children was our new area at the Fundino playground called Mud Kitchen. They all get to explore cooking and food serving using our kitchen utensils and equipment that we believe help children progress in the different areas of their development.

On Tuesday, we got a huge present from Father Christmas- our Christmas tree! All the children helped in putting up the decorations such as jingle bells, baubles and tinsels. We then added Christmas lights around it and lit it up for the children to see. They truly were all very happy.

On Wednesday, the children watched a video about Santa's message. Two children each day receives a video message from Santa saying that they have been nice boys and girls and that they deserve a present. The children were very happy to see their faces on the IWB and hear Santa say their names.

On Thursday, we started making our Christmas decoration for the performace day and for the classroom too. Children have been very busy making their Christmas tree, reindeers and their own Santa Claus.

On Friday, most of the children dressed up in their winter clothes. We then put our AC on the lowest temperature and pretended it's winter season! The children enjoyed our role play area, going up and down the bridge and pretending to shiver. Just before lunch time, we watched Frosty The Snowman on the IWB as well.

It has been another fun filled week in F1X and next week will be another busy one. We hope all the children gets a good rest over the weekend. Well done everybody :)

F1's Busy Flight Schedule!

What a busy but fun week we had in F1! The children are continuously showing their interest in transport and had actively joined in different activities in relation to our theme. They also flew to various countries with their passports and luggage. They went to Italy, Japan, Philippines, India, Hanoi and more.

Look at the amazing journey we had this week:

F1's Immigration office was put up and Olivia, Royce, Benz, Emily and Xavier had a go at collecting their friends' passports and stamping on them. The other children patiently queued and waited for their turn to get a stamp on their passports and board the aeroplane. SOme even had to call their Moms and Dads before boarding the plane! Outstanding role-play!

Balloon Printing!
All the children had a go at this fun activity. They enjoyed seeing the balloons bounce and leave marks on the paper. They also chose different colours of paint to use. Fantastic mark-making!

Motorbike wash!
The children were so excited as they washed Ms Precious and Ms Tam's motorbikes. They enjoyed playing with the sponges and soapy water and scrubbing different parts of the bikes. Some also had a go at using the water hose and splashing water on the bikes and even on their teachers and friends! It was a fun activity and we all had a fantastic time!

After our bike wash, we all headed to the splash pool and had a nice swim!

What a great way to end our transport theme! Well done children for a yet another successful theme!

-----------

As the children are now preparing for the Christmas show with Mr Robbie, they have begun singing Christmas songs and talking about Father Santa in class. They have also expressed an interest in jingle bells and we made some for them to play with. Next week, to extend this interest, we have decided to start our Christmas theme. At the moment, we have started to redecorate our role-play area and it will be a winter scene. In relation to this, may we ask you to bring, if possible, one of your child's winter clothing that he/she may have (jacket, cardigan, gloves, scarf, snood, bonnet etc). We will use these for our role-play.

Thank you very much!

Have a great weekend!

Kind Regards;

Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the F1 Team

Tasting an Italian chocolate spread

F1X children enjoyed a taste of the Italian chocolate spread Nutella. David's Mum came and talked about how popular it is for adults and children in Italy. She also shared with the children the proper amount of sweets and nutritious food that one should take on a daily basis. Everyone then had a slice of the delicious Italian spread. :)

Colouring 'kabuto' with Daiki's Mum

As it is International Week, Daiki's Mum prepared an arts and crafts activity fom Japan that the children could work on. When she came in, she started the session by showing photos of the traditional 'kabuto' head dress. She then told the children about it and showed them what she made from home. The children then had a go at colouring their own 'kabuto'. They used crayons and had a go at picking their favourite colours too! The children did a fantastic job and so as Daiki's Mum! They absolutely loved their 'kabuto' hats :)

The children were all awarded with BISCAT Internationalism stickers for joining in the school's Inetrnational Week Parade last Monday. Well done F1!

Tuesday: India and Vietnam

Yesterday, we focused on two countries - India and Vietnam. Daiwik is from India and most of the children, Ms Tam and Ms Trinh are from Vietnam.

VIETNAM:

Ms Tam taught the children how to make spring rolls. She used pork, taro and onion for the filling. The childred did an amazing job wrapping the spring rolls. Ms Tam needed an hour to fry all the spring rolls that the children made. After that, we cooled them down and tasted them. They were fantastic! Yum!

Ms Trinh had prepared a Powerpoint Presentation about Vietnam. She showed us where Vietnam is located on the map, which food are popular here and also showed us the Vietnamese traditional clothes (Ao Dai). We learnt so much about Vietnam! Thank you Ms Trinh and Ms Tam for preparing those activities for us! We had fun!

INDIA:

Sari is India's traditional costume for women. Yesterday, Daiwik's Mummy and her friend visited our class. F1 children had the opportunity to see how the Sari is worn and some of them was able to get a chance to wear one. Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and Ms Clarissa also had a chance to wear beautiful Saris! A big thank you for Daiwik's Mum and her friend! It was our pleasure having you in class!

International Fair!

It has been such a fun day with the children as we had our International Fair at the foyer. The children get to choose what they would like to do from the range of activities at the from different countries. Most of the children chose to take 'to he' (clay figures), skin tattoos from Korea, bouncy balls from Japan and balloons as well. Ms Charlie encouraged the children to have their faces painted. Hannah, Emily, Subo, Royce and Dawik were very brave to try it on their faces! At home time, the children get to bring home the toys they got from the fair. Everybody did a fantastic job! Well done children. :)

International Buffet

Lunch was different today as we are celebrating International Week. The children had a go at trying a range of food from different countries such as India, Korea, Philippines, Italy and a lot more. The children pointed to which ones they would like to try. They had some korean chicken, nan from India, kimbab from Korea, a range of dumplings from Vietnam and rice cakes from the Philippines. The children particularly liked the ice cream from Italy and truly enjoyed the offerings from the International buffet this year :)

We also had the opportunity to visit the Vietnam room. It looks amazing and some of the children had fun going in the boat, holding and smelling the rice cakes, walking on the bridge and looking at the lotus flowers. The Vietnamese parents and staff did a wonderful job decorating the entire multi-purpose room. A big thank you to all of you!
