Fantastic End of First Half-term!

Wow! The weeks have gone by really fast and it is now the end of our first half-term! The children are now more settled and are even beginning to make friends. They are getting used to the classroom routines and to the activities that we do in class. We hope that after the break, they will all be very excited again to see their friends and explore more!

This week, F1 focused on dinosaurs. We had lots and lots of exciting activities in the Workshop and Investigation Areas! We also played some games in the Interactive Whiteboard and looked at fiction and non-fiction books about dinosaurs!

Here are some of the great activities we had this week. Enjoy!

Last week, we made dinosaur eggs using balloons and plaster of paris. Over the weekend, they all dried up and hardened just like the real dinosaur eggs. Last Monday, the children had fun painting them with green and brown paints. They looked amazing!

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! Here, the children made a wonderful backdrop for our new Dinosaur display! They made dinosaur footprints with Long-necked and T- rex dinosaurs!

A fantastic IWB game! The children had a go at designing and colouring their own dinosaurs on the IWB by clicking colour, paint or fill icons!

Our very own F1 Paleontologist! We prepared frozen dinosaurs with leaves and sand for the children to explore and investigate. They all looked very carefully at first then they all got hammers, rolling pins, cutters and more and started cracking the ice to get the dinosaurs! Some were able to get the dinosaurs and some waited for the ice to melt! What clever little children!

Ms Precious and the children had a virtual tour of the Smithsonian Museum and they found lots of dinosaur fossils! Linh Lan and Emily were very sad to know that the dinosaurs are now extinct and they even asked Ms Tam some questions about them. All the children was given a chance to use the wand and see the museum on their own.

To cap our dinosaur theme, we made dinosaur fossils ourselfves! We asked the children to form the body, legs and tail of their dinosaurs using different sizes of cotton buds. They all had fun with this activity! Well done F1!

We had such fun at the soft play room today as we did a dinosaur race!. First, we looked at who is the fastest crawling dinosaur. Next, we looked at the fastest rolling dinosaur. Then, we had a go at looking for the fastest running dinosaur. By the end of the session, it was David-SAURUS that is fastest of all! We then had a lovely rest by lying flat on the cushions. A Roaring kind of week at F1X

This week, F1X children continue to explore our dinosaur resources such as our dinosaur den, tuff spot with dinos, sand and natural resources, dinosaur books and dinosaur eggs. In one of our carpet sessions, we read a non fiction dinosaur book. The children had a go at naming various dinosaurs. We used the words, big dinosaur, small dinosaur, fast dinosaur and slow dinosaur. Most of them mimed dinosaur roars at carpet time as well! The children had a go at making dinosaur eggs using both their hands. We used balloons, water and plaster of paris in making them. In the coming days, we will be painting our dinosaur eggs too! We had such of fun on Thursday as we did a dinosaur hunt at the Fundino playground. The children searched everywhere and were very happy to take dinos in unusual spots like the slides, plant pots, sink and rails. Some children did lots of digging as well! On Friday, the children showed lots of interest as they watched the Discovery Dino Babies. They showed good listening and sat beautifully on the mat. The children were fantastic this week! They all deserve a good rest over the weekend! :)

Book Week

It has been a very busy but fun-filled Book Week in TX! Lots of book characters came to life and we even met a wonderful writer and illustrator! 'Digger!' by Liz Million was our focus story book this week. Today, the children looked amazing in their costumes and we had a fantastic time together in celebrating Book week and also Benz and Royce's 3rd birthday!

Here are the highlights from this week.

Favourite Book - We shared our favourite books with everybody in class and made a dinosaur made of mud rock!

Meeting Ms Liz Million - Writer and Illustrator of 'Digger!', Ms Liz Million flew all the way from the UK to teach us how to draw book characters. She held a workshop for parents which EYFS children attended. She taught us how to draw a happy, sad, angry and surpised cat by just changing the shapes of the mouths and eyes! It was fantastic!  After the workshop, Ms Liz visited each EYFS class and she taught us how to draw Little Red Riding Hood. We were also very lucky because Ms Liz even read us that story! Wow! Thank you Ms Liz! We hope to read more of your great books!

Snuggle-up and Read - Ms Precious read us 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' by Eric Carle as we sat on the sleeping mats wearing our gorgeous pyjamas. Ms Crislet prepared hot chocolate and we all had it after the story. We even had marshmallows! What a treat!

Dress-up Day - Today, children came in school wearing their favourite book character costumes! We had princesses, a wolf, 'Hello Kitty', a ladybird, a lion, a caterpillar, a fairy, a pirate, a wizard and our 2 birthday boys who both came in as 'Superman'! All of them wore their costumes in stride and were all in characters! Some kept roaring and some kept twirling! Just gorgeous!

Well done F1X for a yet another successful event! You all did an amazing job!

Some Reminders:

- Swimming takes place every Tuesday and Thursday. Please bring in your child's swimming kit on these days.
- Please provide a water bottle for your child.

Thank you very much!

*Next week, we will continue with our farm animals and dinosaurs themes.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

F1X's first splash pool session

F1X had their first splash session last  Tuesday 24th September. They had such great fun splashing and showering their friends with water. Most of the children chose to use flatter boards. Some started kicking their legs and moving their arms to swim. What a fantastic first session! :)

Gentle reminder for parents:
Please bring in your child's swimming kit every Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thank you!
